Black History Month
The month of February is generally recognized as Black History Month. Originally launched by the historian Carter G. Woodson in 1926 as "Black History Week", this period is considered to be a time dedicated to the recognition of achievements and contributions by African-Americans and others throughout the African Diaspora.
In light of this, we have included articles on this web site that highlight heroes and achievers of the Black community. We seek to honor those who are in our midst at the Hanson Place Church or in the community of Fort Greene, as well as those who, while not based in our local community, have also made an impact that positively affects all of us.
