Music Ministry

The world we live in abounds with music of all types, all styles and for all occasions. Music is a part of the joyful and sorrowful times in our lives. Music evokes feelings and unlocks memories. Music expresses what words alone cannot.  Likewise, music is an important element to the worship of our Creator.  It is no wonder that the praise and worship of God calls us to employ music when we gather together. The scriptures are filled with exhortations to sing to God and to make music with instruments. Thus we stand in agreement with the timeless maxim from Augustine’s De Musica , which declares: “Those who sing, pray twice!”

The Hanson Place Music Ministry has a broad and rich heritage from which to draw on.  The Sanctuary Choir , the longest surviving music ministry in our church, provides upliftment through hymns and anthems during our worship services.  Under the direction of Mr. Edward Daniel, it has performed with great distinction oratorios such as Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Handel’s Messiah , an annual Christmas tradition.  It also recorded the work Judas Maccabaeus by Handel.  Open membership; some sight-reading skill preferred.  Rehearsal times vary; please call the Church Office for further information.

The Young Adult Choir is directed by Mr. Jeremiah Cox, Jr.  Formed in the mid-1980s, it continues to bring Holy Ghost power with various styles of musical praise.  From traditional and contemporary gospel songs to spirituals to a cappella renderings, YAC is much sought after for concerts and church services.  The choir has even traveled to minister in places such as Atlanta, Ga., Berrien Springs, Mich., and Toronto, Ontario.  Open membership.  Rehearsals are generally every Friday evening at 7:30PM in the Youth Sanctuary.  For bookings, please contact the Church Office.

Majestic Praise is a female-ensemble specializing in the sweet sounds of traditional and contemporary arrangements of Christian music.  Ms. Dorita Adolphus leads these ladies as they lift the name of Jesus with their unique style.  Majestic Praise is a much sought-after group for church services and concerts.  For booking information, please contact the Church Office.

Originally formed as an auxiliary of the Men’s Ministry, the Men’s Chorus is the latest addition to the Music Ministry family -- but they are by no means the least.  Under Elder Lincoln Blackwood’s directorship, this dynamic group of men has made its mark in the hearts and spirits of our worshippers.  They offer rousing renditions of spiritual, hymns, and spiritual songs.  All men are welcome and encouraged to join this growing band of servants.  Rehearsal times vary; please contact the Church Office for further information.
